Overview
What you eat between sessions has a direct effect on how you feel during them. Our dietitians work with dialysis patients on fluid limits, and on managing potassium, phosphate, sodium and protein — translating test results into meals that are realistic for your household and your budget.
Counselling is part of the same interdisciplinary team that manages your dialysis, so dietary advice is based on your current bloodwork rather than generic guidance.
The procedure
Stage by stage, as it happens on the day.
-
Stage 1
Individual Assessment
Each patient receives a personalized nutritional assessment from our expert kidney dietitians in Chennai, considering their medical history, lifestyle, and specific dietary needs.
-
Stage 2
Diet Planning
We develop customized diet charts for kidney patients in Chennai, focusing on the right balance of nutrients, fluid intake, and dietary restrictions necessary for optimal health during dialysis.
-
Stage 3
Ongoing Monitoring and Adjustments
Nutrition plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted based on the patient’s response to treatment and changing health status.
Before you come
A dialysis-friendly diet typically includes high-quality protein sources like lean meats, eggs, and legumes; fruits and vegetables with controlled potassium levels; and whole grains and fiber-rich foods to help manage digestion and cholesterol levels. Patients are generally advised to limit foods high in sodium, potassium, and phosphorus; processed and fast foods that contribute to fluid retention and unhealthy weight gain; and excessive dairy products which can contribute to phosphorus build-up.
